Where Finding a Bike ?

Once you are installed in Jyväskylä, you’ll find that something totally unused by you until now will become your best friend: your bike!

Indeed, one of the easiest and the most practical ways to move in Finland is going riding! Furthermore, it is totally free! You just need a little bit more energy than usual. Being a student, it is a good plan.

So now that you are totally convinced to buy a bike, let check together the right places to find one.

The first thing to know is to buy your bike in the right time. Usually, more bikes are available and quite cheap (around 40€) each start of semester and end of semester. Indeed, students are trying to sell their bikes. Out of this period, there are less choices on the market (cruel is the law of supply and demand !).

But where finding them ?

As student, you can easily access them through three main channels.

The first place where to find a bike is the second-hand shop. This kind of shop is really common in Finland. Like many students live in Jyväskylä, people sell their bikes to this kind of shops specialised on the bike sale.

Secondly, you can ask directly the exchange students who leave soon Finland. In the different university residences (Röninmäki, Myllyjärvi…), you can see that many students use bikes. It is easy to talk with them directly.

The last way to find a bike is to check the different sales available on Internet like the second-hand page on Facebook or also the online sales (for example http://www.tori.fi/).

The last but not least, where can your best friend and you ride ? Thanks to this map, organise your own ways http://kartta.jkl.fi/ims.

Now you have all to conquer the roads de Jyväskylä !
